Nick Catoire and Newcomer Rubik RELEASE Moombahton Laced Remix of “I Can’t Look At You Now”
Nick Catoire has teamed up with newcomer artist and producer, Rubik, to remix his single “I Can’t Look At You Now” only a few short months after the release of Rubik’s debut single “Save Me”. His upbeat take on Catoire’s track flips the original on its head with bouncy moombahton drums, infectious melodies, and that indescribable Toronto touch.
“I see this remix as a kind of spiritual successor to the original. Nick’s song is sorrowful and melancholy, left bitter from the broken relationship. I continued the story, celebrating the eventual overcoming of his heartbreak.”
Nick Catoire released the original “I Can’t Look At You Now” only a few months ago, and his lyrics allowed fans to see him at his most vulnerable.
“It’s about my biggest heartbreak. Soon after my first love left me and shattered my world, we ended up at the same New Year’s party. At midnight, I watched him kiss his ex-girlfriend. I was trying so hard to play it cool. It was absolute hell.
Growing up as the only gay guy in my town, I thought I would never find love. Falling for him made me believe I was wrong. When he left, all the fear and shame came back, dragging me lower than ever before. So, in the song, I’m telling him “I can’t look at you now”, but I’m also saying it to myself.”
Armed with a positive, witty personality and vocal chops that would give Sam Smith a run for his money, Nick Catoire is ready to share his story of growing up as a closeted kid in the swamps of Louisiana, surrounded by drug addiction and bigotry.
His mission – celebrate queer culture and share his wild ride of a life.
17-year-old artist and producer Rubik brings together compelling writing with fresh production to carry you away with every track. The Toronto-based artist brings his city to life with intricate drums, carefully crafted melodies, and a love of all things fresh and different. Trained in classical piano, Rubik combines elements of underground EDM, modern trap, and mainstream pop to construct addictive songs that you can’t get enough of.

EMPTY LOVE
ANNOUNCED: JUNE 24
RELEASED: JULY 2
“While Catoire’s emotive voice evokes melancholy and regret, the song musically remains upbeat. With lush synth pads and a hip hop-inspired dance beat, glitchy production gives little easter eggs like the sound of Mario getting a coin along with other little surprises. It gives the track a fun and playful vibe to juxtapose the lyrics.”
